Thursday May 10th

(yesterday was easy 50 minutes at 9:00pm in order to stay cool. Went to Peak, down main st., right on Huguenot and back on the road with planned parenthood.)

Huguenot 5k.

Woke up at about 11 getting about 7.5 hours of sleep, but ended up being pretty well rested.
Ate immediatly after: Vegan chicken nuggets, tomatoes, and something else...

Started warming up at about 4:30. Did one ten minute warm up, streched, did a second ten minute warm up and one five minute one and streched again. Race began at 6.
First mile: a little over 6 minutes
second mile: 12:15ish
Finished: 19:09

It was pretty hot. The long warm up and drinking lots of water throughout helped with the heat and it ended up not being to bad at all. I was also pretty loose.

Felt like I was going out to fast during the first mile but was able to hold it easily.
Started out a little behind Alex trying to keep about his pace and caught up a little before the turn around at about 1.5-1.8 miles. Pulled away from him a little after mile 2 and passed two more guys before finishing. Picked it up a little earlier than I had planned, but it ended up working out.

Pacing ended up being pretty much ideal, but I was too dependant on my watch as well as both trying to keep Alex close by at the beginning and misjudging the finish to be closer than it was. I should probably work on learning where my potential is for pushing myself. I seem to be underestimating it in 5ks at least. Even otherwise, I dont think i would be able to pace a good 8k either.
I feel like I ran this one much better than in Danbury, but i still ended up running slower which could either be due to the heat or the fact that I ran 50 minutes the night before.
Warmed down over the distance of the course with Mike, Harry, and Nick
Ate about 3 hotdogs, 2bananas, and 2 of those nature vally peanut butter things.
Went to hasbrouck and ate stuff which I dont remeber.
Took a nap afterwards (9ish to 11:30) from which we learn the critical lesson: dont sleep after races.

you can enter new posts instead of editing one huge one. Just so you know at the bottom of the new post window you can change the "post options". It allows you to change the time and date of post as well.
